What should you charge per hour?

From costs and non-billable time to an hourly rate your business can actually run on.

Start with your costs

Add up everything you spend per year: van, tools, insurance, phone, accountant, software and training.

Count real hours

You rarely bill 40 hours out of a 40 hour week. Quoting, collecting materials and admin all take time. Work with 25 to 30 billable hours per week.

The sum

Costs plus the income you want, divided by your billable hours per year. Add a margin for setbacks.

Price is not discount

Give something extra rather than a discount. A discount is hard to take back later.
